Education reform will not for-profit plans
This was announced by president Juan Manuel Santos at a meeting with rectors.
The proposal to include in the education reform project plans related to profit generated criticism of public institutions of higher education who viewed this meant privatization of the sector.
The heads of the parties of the coalition government agreed thatsuited withdraw this item from the bill to be filed in Congress.
Education Minister Maria Fernanda Campo said the authorities"agree on the importance of this law for the country, young people, especially the poorest, because it will allow more choice and higher quality."
However, he explained that the initiative agreed to exclude "thefinancing component of private higher education system."
He added that surpassed that discussion, the project shall be filed in Congress in the coming days.
Campo also ruled that this decision will affect the sources ofeducation funding included in the project and gave figures ofwhat is projected in terms of economic support for education.
"Particularly at public universities this year will turn 2.3 billionpesos. Over the next three years are going to rotate further, if approved the conditions under which the project is close to 660 billion pesos in addition to public institutions finance higher education, "stated the minister.
